We Got Ke'alohi's Ears Pierced!

Yup, we did it; we got Ke'alohi's ears pierced!  After much discussion and consideration, Lucas and I decided that we did want to pierce Ke'alohi's ears now that she is young and we can take care of them.  This way by the time she knows what earrings are and wants to change them as often as she changes her clothes, we will have less of a chance that they will have problems or get infected.

Since Ke'alohi had done so well when she got her shots, it made me feel better about getting her ears pierced since I thought she would take it just as well.  But, I was wrong and she cried bloody murder for a few minutes before we gave her a bottle and she fell asleep.  I definitely felt guilty for making her cry but I hope that she will thank me one day when she doesn't remember the pain or have to deal with the healing process herself.

Doesn't she look pretty!!!

  1. Mahina,

Was searching for a GF's blog and came across yours. Started reading and came across your post about having your dd's ears pierced at this age.

I think you're a smart and thoughtful mommy for considering having your dd's ears pierced now. I had similar anguish when I was considering whether or not to pierce my dd's as an infant. Sounds like you were in the same quandry with wondering to do it early or not.

Ask our ped and she encouraged me to go ahead when mommy could care for them. She gave me some " Tips for moms having their dd's ears pierced since she had so many moms ask about having their infants and little girls ears pierced.

I know cerebrally, as mothers of girls of all ages, we know it celebrates their femaleness and femininity. After all, they are little girls, right?

Promise she'll thank you later for the "gift of pierced ears" as an infant and will look adorable in her upcoming holiday pictures.

If any other moms would like any of our ped’s tips for piercing, then don’t hesitate to write me an e-mail. They include OTC meds to minimize any discomfort as well as how to find the most experienced person to pierce her ears.

  2. So cute!! I have a 15 month old niece (Peter's daughter) named Alohilani (Alohi is a great name!) and she got her ears pierced when she was around 6 months too. She cried just like your baby, which I mean is understandable because it hurts and they have such delicate skin.

Ke'alohi looks so adorable with her little earrings though!! She's so cute.
